About the Creators of Port Arthur Lavender Farm

Lavender is the scent of romance, relaxation and good health.  In early roman times it was a scent reserved for only kings and high priests it was treasured for its aromatic and healing qualities.  Lavender is a very versatile herb and is an emerging boutique industry in Tasmania with only a handful of growers.

Tasmanian Lavender Company represents a total transformation of our family farm business struggling through drought conditions and trying to find a way to remain viable. Through innovation and determination and with our young family to think of we set about planting our first 10,000 lavender plants creating a new way forward for the farm’s future.

In 2012 we decided to take a leap of faith and open our business up to the public. Prior to this you could only find our handmade products at boutique local markets. We purchased a property on the waterfront at Long bay and planted a further 6,500 lavender plants as our showroom. In 2014 after two years of planning and renovating Port Arthur Lavender opened its doors.

Our visitor centre at Port Arthur now offers a dynamic Tasmanian visitor experience based around value adding our lavender. Central to this is a functioning essential oil distillery using world best processing practices that enables visitors to connect with the entire paddock-to-plate concept. We now grow around 50,000 lavender plants and adding to this every year. Port Arthur Lavender’s quality range of lavender products are displayed and available for purchase in an interactive visitor centre and café.

We now handmake around 70 different products showcasing our lavender.

In mid 2019 we took the step of purchasing an 1850’s cottage located on Bridge street in the heart of the historic township of Richmond. We undertook a large restoration of this beautiful building and opened our store in the December of 2019. Richmond showcases all of our handmade products and is the perfect stop on one’s travels around Tasmania.

We are passionate about our beautiful state of Tasmania and are so proud to be playing a part in a vibrant and positive future for farming families.
